5.56mm Belt-Fed Light Machine Gun (Standard)
The Standard 5.56×45mm NATO Belt-Fed Light Machine Gun is a squad automatic weapon (SAW) platform that provides infantry units with organic automatic fire support at the fire-team level. The belt-fed design using M27 disintegrating links with a 200-round soft pack allows sustained suppressive fire capability far beyond what a magazine-fed rifle can provide. The quick-detach, air-cooled barrel system allows operators to swap barrels within seconds during sustained fire to prevent overheating without interrupting the tactical situation. A secondary magazine-feed port accepts standard STANAG 30-round magazines as a backup feed option when belt ammunition is depleted. The bipod provides stable platform for prone suppressive fire, while the fixed carrying handle facilitates barrel changes. Operationally proven and deployed with US Forces worldwide.
